Opening newly refurbished Jaipur Spice Restaurant to celebrate 25 years in York

Sep 2012

I visited the newly refurbished Jaipur Spice Restaurant on Haxby Road today to celebrate the York-based restaurant chain’s 25 years in the city and sample some Indian cuisine.  I met Mr Khalique Zaman, the restaurant’s owner, members of his family and some of his business associates.

The restaurant currently employs 12 full time members of staff, whilst the chain employs over 60.  Mr Zamman told me the restaurant in Haxby Road is the largest and most authentic Indian restaurant in the whole of North Yorkshire and his vision is to bring home style “apna” cooking to the UK Indian restaurant market using the best fresh and locally sourced ingredients available.  Mr Zamman uses unique blends of spices from Sylhet in North East Bangladesh to add his own personal touch to each curry featured on the menu.

The newly refurbished Jaipur Spice restaurant shows that the chain is going from strength to strength.  In the current economic climate, some small businesses are struggling to stay afloat and it is great to see the Jaipur Spice chain doing so well.  Business growth is always a positive sign for a city and I am glad that York is bucking the economic downturn.

I congratulate Khalique Zamman and his team for all their hard work and I hope that their business will continue to grow.
