Affordable house building has collapsed throughout Yorkshire and the Humber

Official figures have revealed that affordable house building has collapsed throughout Yorkshire and the Humber.  Figures from the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency show that there were 34 new home starts in York in 2010/11 but none in 2011/12.  Across the region the number fell by 79% from 2503 in 2010/11 to 531 in 2011/12.

We have a growing housing crisis and the Government’s policies are making it worse.  These figures demonstrate the need for urgent action to build much needed homes and get the economy going again.
