Visiting new Community Hub in Burton Stone Lane
9th
Mar 2012
I joined Councillor Helen Douglas and Cafe Owner Roger McGivern to open a new Business Enterprise and Community hub in Burton Stone Lane in York today.
The hub has been designed to support local businesses by providing a place where business owners can meet and work together to find ways of encouraging business in the area. One idea which has already been suggested is to have a neighbourhood loyalty card so that shoppers can secure discounts when they shop locally. The organisers of the hub also plan to hold fun events such as pancake races so that people will come along with their families to join in with events which promote the neighbourhood.
The community hub will also allow residents the opportunity to go online to find out what is happening in York. There will be information available from voluntary groups, the NHS and City of York Council. The hub will be a place where people can meet staff from these agencies to discuss any problems or to put forward suggestions. It is hoped that some of these ideas could see improvements to the area or to local services. It is planned that some of these meetings will be held on an evening when the cafe is closed.
I was pleased to open the new community hub in Burton Stone Lane today. It is a great idea and I congratulate Councillor Helen Douglas and Roger McGivern for getting the project up and running. The Hub is a place where local people can come together over a cup of coffee to access information and to receive help and advice.
It is great to see the businesses in Burton Stone Lane working together on new ways of attracting trade. The Hub is a fantastic community resource and I hope many people will visit it.
