Thanking Royal Mail staff
2nd
Dec 2011
I met some of Royal Mail’s York postal workers this morning. Christmas is the busiest time of the year and this year Royal Mail expects to deliver about two billion letters, cards and parcels to homes across the country, including 130 million on the busiest days.
I visited Leeman Road Delivery Office to thank the staff for the enormous amount of work they do to sort and deliver the Christmas mail. The advice from Royal Mail to customers, who want to ensure their mail is delivered in time for Christmas, is to post early. The recommended last posting dates for UK deliveries are 17 December for second-class mail, 20 December for first-class and 22 December for special deliveries.
Royal Mail delivers millions of items of post at this time of the year and almost everyone in York posts or receives something. The staff work round the clock in the lead up to Christmas to make sure our cards and presents are delivered on time. We all depend on the Royal Mail and I wanted to thank the delivery staff for the work they do, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year.
